In November 2025, I had an accident at work. While cutting wood with a circular saw, it turned out there was a nail in the wood. The saw kicked back and seriously injured two fingertips. Thanks to quick action and the great help of my neighbors, I got to the hospital fast, which greatly improved the chances of recovery.

Update 13/01/2026: My recovery is going very well. One of the two fingers is almost fully healed. The other still needs some time, but it’s improving and will heal too.

I hope to reopen as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Em novembro de 2025, tive um acidente durante o trabalho. Enquanto cortava madeira com uma serra circular, descobri que havia um prego na madeira. A serra deu um “coice” (kickback) e causou ferimentos graves em duas pontas dos dedos. Graças à rapidez de reação e à excelente ajuda dos meus vizinhos, cheguei rapidamente ao hospital, o que aumentou muito as hipóteses de recuperação.

Atualização 13/01/2026: A minha recuperação está a correr muito bem. Um dos dedos está quase totalmente recuperado. O outro ainda precisa de algum tempo, mas também está a evoluir bem e irá recuperar.

Espero reabrir o mais rapidamente possível. Obrigado pela vossa compreensão e apoio.

The Story behind Ekraft Art

Where creativity meets intention

I am Erwin, a Dutch former visistor and now proud resident and member of the community of Olhos de Água. I took my family here in 2023 because I had a dream: living in our happy place, the most beautiful village in the world, while spreading the love of this place with my craftmanship throughout the world by delivering the most beautiful, unique and different souvenirs to our visitors.

I find joy in making unique pieces of decoration and jewellery, crafted with love, inspired by the Algarve and the happiness everyone feels when they are here in Olhos de Água. Almost everything in our shop is handmade and if it's not by me it's by a local artisan.

I use wood, the iconic colours of the village and inspiration from the Portugal traditions and culture for my creations.

My wonderful family

Nathalie is my amazing wife and has been the most incredible partner in building Ekraft Art. She is not only a wonderful mother but also a talented artist, as seen in the paintings she creates. These paintings are available for purchase at Ekraft Art. In addition to her artistic side, Nathalie is a true entrepreneur. Alexia is 11 years old and loves that her parents have a store in Olhos de Água. Besides her hobbies, such as playing the piano and gymnastics, she enjoys helping out in the store. Alexia is very creative and loves designing and making her own jewelry. With help from Erwin, Alexia's creations are often available for sale in the store. For example, here’s a photo of earrings created by Alexia

Anouk is 6 years old and thinks life here in Portugal is one big party, enjoying every day to the fullest. Her biggest passion is horses. She often plays in the playground next to the store, but she also loves helping out in the shop, especially with making the famous fisherman's houses. Just like her big sister, Anouk also wants to make and sell earrings. Here's a photo of her very first design, which she made herself. Unfortunately, they're not for sale right now because they were sold within 45 minutes! Anouk is so proud of that.
